One cornerstone of the firm's practice since its beginning has been the firm's representation of bankruptcy trustees and examiners and state-court receivers. Over the years, several of the firm's attorneys have served as panel trustees in both chapter 7 and chapter 11 cases through the Office of the United States Trustee. Currently, Arnold Kupetz and Howard Ehrenberg serve as panel trustees. Irving Sulmeyer serves as trustee in chapter 11 cases by special appointment. Irving Sulmeyer, Arnold Kupetz and Don Rothman have served as receivers in complex state court actions, and each is on the list of approved receivers maintained by the Superior Court for Los Angeles County.
Through its trustee practice, the firm has gained special knowledge of the administration of the panel trustee program and the operations of the Office of the United States Trustee. Irving Sulmeyer authored the Collier Handbook For Creditors' Committees, and is co-author of the Collier Handbook For Trustees And Debtors In Possession. Both of these publications are highly respected industry guides. The firm's expertise in trustee and receivership matters benefits other business clients of the firm who may be required to deal with trustees or receivers in the course of insolvency proceedings.
